Lucy English
Writing Poetry for Poetry Films: an exploration of the use of spoken word poetry in poetry films

The Book of Hours is a calendar of poetry films. There is a poetry film for now and for different times of day, for every month of the year.

All the films have been made in collaboration between Lucy English, a UK based spoken word poet, and an international community of film makers. This project was created for Lucy's PhD in digital writing at Bath Spa University.

Lucy English is a spoken word poet and novelist. Lucy has toured widely in the UK and the US. With the South West Collective she co-wrote Flash, a multi media spoken word show, which toured the UK in 2010-11 and also Count Me In, which toured from 2014-5. Both tours were sponsored by the Arts Council. She has run performances and workshops for the British Council in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and Taiwan for their Animating Literature Programme.

Lucy is a Professor of Creative Enterprise and The Spoken Word at Bath Spa University and has a PhD on spoken word in poetry film. She is the co-organiser of the Mix Digital conferences at Bath Spa University and is co-director of Lyra, The Bristol Poetry Festival.
