HOMELAND
Homeland is a video poem written by Sherin Ali
and made in collaboration as part of a Bristol Refugee Artists Collective project.
Sherin’s art expresses her Kurdish identity through drawing on the sufferings of the country and her experience and situation as a refugee, and her artworks that express her homeland are favoured as a priority. As well as this, themes of joy, hope and memories of the past, are expressed and conveyed through her art, especially through painting. Sherin has been involved in art from a young age due to it being considered a talent, and art inspired her as a form of expression. Through collaborating with UWE, Sherin has felt positive about sharing her work with people who acknowledge artwork through beauty and expressive appreciation.

JERUSALEM TREE
Jerusalem Tree is a video poem written by Sam
and made in collaboration as part of a Bristol Refugee Artists Collective project.
Sam is from Palestine which is reflected through his art, by portraying belonging to Palestine, as Palestine belongs to him. Sam uses and creates a range of art, such as painting, calligraphy and sculptures, therefore not limiting himself to a specific form, due to him seeing it as important for artists to vary in their work and not corner themselves. His art does not always reflect refugee experiences, however sometimes does, such as creating art based on individuals from the Windrush generation. Sam views art as a form of therapy as it makes him feel relaxed, calm and happy when creating it. Sam also sees art as a way of connecting people from different countries and acting as an icebreaker.
